Elemental analyzer

Funding by European Union – European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE), funding period 2014-2020

Thanks to EFRE funding, a new elemental analyzer could be purchased in 2020 by the group of Applied Ecology and Phycology.

This machine is used for the elemental analysis of organic and anorganic compounds containing the elements carbon, nitrogen and surfur. It is applied in ecological and marine biological research for environmental monitoring (e.g. eutrophication of water bodies), but also in water purification plants as well as wastewater treatment plants, and in many aquatic systems that contain organisms, for example, to determine nutrient limitation. Elemental analysis can thus serve as a kind of chemical finger print.
