Professor Dr. Ulf Karsten
Ulf Karsten is head of the Department of Applied Ecology and Phycology at the Institute of Biosciences at the University of Rostock.
Awards
Professor Karsten has been Associate Editor of the journal Phycological Research since 2004 and of Nova Hedwigia since 2020. He was also Chief Editor of Algological Studies (2014-2020).
In 2017, he was awarded a visiting professorship at the Leopold Franzens University of Innsbruck.
As a post-doc, he received a Feodor Lynen Fellowship from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation for his work on the mannitol cycle on the mangrove red alga Caloglossa leprieurii.
Professor Karsten has taken part in various expeditions to the tropical mangrove areas of Mexico, Australia and the Okinawa Islands, as well as to the Arctic waters of Spitsbergen.
