Research interests

  • Using polyphasic approach to define species of terrestrial microalgal key players
  • Combine culture-dependent and –independ methods to uncover species composition within biological soil crusts (microscopy, sequencing of ribosomal marker genes)
  • Reveal the ecological function of biological soil crusts by linking methods from soil science with diversity analyses in the crust
  • Develop and optimize modern molecular methods (Next-generation-sequencing) for the application in biological soil crusts
